Aaliyah Joseph
Board Member Aaliyah Joseph graduated from New York University in 2019 with a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Chemistry. She then received a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and is currently a second-year medical student at EVMS. She is passionate about serving disadvantaged populations both locally and internationally, and works closely with the Spanish-speaking and refugee populations in Hampton Roads. She also has a keen interest in improving mental health access and health outcomes. Aaliyah has won several awards for her volunteerism and global health research including the EVMS Health Professions Award for Community Service and First Place Poster Award at the Psychiatric Society of Virginia Conference. She served as the Mental Health Clinic Coordinator for the EVMS Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students (HOPES) Clinic for two and a half years where she led numerous initiatives, such as moving the clinic to remote operation during the COVID pandemic to prevent a break in continuity of care and implementing a mental health education program to improve health literacy for local at-risk populations. She plans to pursue a career in psychiatry after graduation. Her hobbies include kickboxing, painting, and going to TopGolf. As a board member for The CHAS Foundation, Aaliyah looks forward to bridging the gap for those suffering from mental illness and eliminating stigma.
